The Ghost Orchid is an endangered plant found only in the shadowy depths of swamps in south Florida and Cuba. It's not an easy plant to find. It lives a life without leaves...relying instead on photosynthetic roots anchored to the side of a tree (see the background-right in this image). For a few weeks during the rainy season it sends out a stalk with a beautiful white flower. I felt lucky to view several of these rare orchids in June.
