Pileated Woodpecker

Big and noisy, the Pileated Woodpecker is really a treat to view. I spotted this male in Banff National Park in Alberta. I really wasn't expecting this species up there, but I was thrilled! He and his partner were absolutely demolishing a dead tree to find food for their three chicks.
