Loggerhead Lighthouse photographed from Garden Key, Dry Tortugas National Park
This was a moment that I had wanted to capture for several years. The sun only lines up behind the lighthouse for a couple weeks each year. Additionally you have to take 70 mile ferry ride out to the island and camp to have this opportunity. It's amazing how quickly the sun moved to the right in this scene. I had to move down the beach 4-5 times during a couple minutes of photography to try and keep it close to center.
Now this is a photograph that shows that persistence pays off! Not only is the sun in the perfect position; but the sun doesn't overwhelm anything. There must have been a lot of fiddling with camera settings to get everything right for the time of the big moment. Even the clouds exude symmetry. This is a beautiful example of great timing and determination. The photographer mentioned in his artist comment that he had been wanting to shoot this for several years. This picture is an unparalleled example of what it means to see one's vision lived out. The fact that he never forgot about taking this picture after all those years offers us all a noble lesson: That pursuing our dreams to the end will yield nothing short of magnificent results.
Outstanding! Great colours, sharp, and I love the silhouette with the palms. Also great how the framework at the top of the lighthouse is still perfect, not blurred from the sun at all.
