The Color of Spoonbills by juddpatterson The Color of Spoonbills by juddpatterson
In the early morning light a flock of beautiful spoonbills painted the water pink with their reflections. I only managed a couple images before the scene was gone, but I'm pleased with this one. It sure made battling the clouds of pre-dawn mosquitoes worthwhile.

Absolutely beautiful, the colors are incredible. I loved your artist comments too. Most photographers just list the equipment and location, if we're lucky, but.. I'm not entirely sure how to explain it. Your words were just very inspiring. :)

Stunning colours you have captured in the reflection. To me, they really made the shot and made it a unique exciting reflection + bird photo. Congrats. :)

Wow wow wow! The colors in the water, and the ripples around him, compared with the colors of his own body, and that red eye that stands out, everything in this is astonishing and works together so well. The curve of the bird's body is even reminiscent of a ripple of water...

absolutely gorgeous shot! Well-worth the mosquitos, I'd say! Colors, clarity, and composition all perfect and stunning! I never get to see flocks of rosy spoonbills - only the occasional loner. Where was this taken, if you don't mind me asking?

Oh ok - I'm not too far from there. I might have to add that to my growing list of places to photograph! Rosies really are gorgeous, yet strange-looking creatures. Their bald heads give them so much character!

If you are ever in the Boynton Beach area, I highly recommend both Green Cay Wetlands [link] and Wakodahatchee Wetlands [link] if you haven't already been. Green Cay has many opportunities to photograph birds of prey such as Osprey and Red-shouldered Hawks, as well as Purple Gallinules, Green Herons, and Limpkins among other wonderful Florida wetland birds. As for Wakodahatchee, there is amazing access to the Great Blue Herons and Anhingas that are currently building nests. I tend to spend hours upon hours wandering around in both of them. Plus they both have boardwalks, making it easy to walk around.

Anyway, sorry about carrying on forever, I get excited talking about such wonderful places. I am looking forward to seeing more of your work and I'm definitely going to be checking out your website! You are a wonderful inspiration to me - thank you for sharing such wonderful photographs. :)

Thanks! Yes, I do know about both Green Cay and Wakodahatchee. They are great locations for wildlife, and I do visit on occasion when I feel up to tolerating the traffic to/from Boynton Beach...sometimes it is downright nasty on the drive home. ;) Thanks again.

Yeah, I saw you knew about them on your website only after I posted the reply. & you need not explain traffic around boynton to me - I have to drive in it everyday! :faint:

& you are very welcome!

beautiful shot of the spoonbill amazing colors - we have them at High Island Texas where I photographed them last year in there breeding colors - beautiful birds - I hope they are still there this year since hurricane Ike destroyed a lot of the bird sanctuaries of the Texas coast :(
